As threatened, I have done a month-by-month mugshot montage of the microbe since birth. Each photo represents a month, starting from his week of birth in June 2011 and running through to August 2013.

It’s interesting to see the evolution of a face. In my opinion he really started to ‘bed in’ at 11 months (that’s May 2012 – the one with the paper crown). From there on he pretty much looks like his current self, whereas most of the pics before then are reminders of a boy long gone, whose face I’d almost forgotten.
There are odd months in which he looks nothing like himself at all. E.g. who on earth is that spiky-haired boy in the 8th and 9th pics? These were taken in Jan/Feb 2012 and, whenever photos from that era come up on a screensaver, I find myself wondering who that strange-looking boy is. Jan 2013 doesn’t really look like him either. He clearly morphs into someone else’s child every January.
Anyway, should you fancy montaging your own microbes, I can vouch that it was dead easy to do and took me about 20 minutes. I found a free photo collage template on a website called The Album Cafe and all I had to do was download the template, open it in Photoshop Elements and plug in the mugshots, one by one (the instructions came as part of the download). I expect there are similar templates online for people who don’t use Photoshop.
In other news, the Microbe had another go on a horse last weekend. We were pootling around Chippenham in Wiltshire with Uncle Alistair and Auntie Sarah and happened upon a family fun day that had horse rides for a pound. It wasn’t a weeny little pony this time but a big, gentle cart horse. James could hardly get his legs astride it and spent most of the ride perched on the top of the saddle while G walked alongside to make sure he didn’t fall off.
He really seems to love riding a horse and appears to have no fear of heights whatsoever. It’s a shame that our nearby kiddie stable starts at age 3, otherwise I’d be tempted to take him along for a little ride every now and then as a weekend treat.
